YarnSaga Payments Are Now Powered by Stripe

Quick but important update on something that sits behind every purchase you make on YarnSaga: checkout is now powered by Stripe. When you buy a credit pack, you're going through the same payment system that handles billing for millions of businesses worldwide — from tiny indie shops to companies like Shopify, Amazon, and OpenAI.

For most of you this is invisible by design — you click Buy, you pay, you're back to making comics in seconds. But the change matters, so here's what's different, what isn't, and why we made the switch.

YarnSaga checkout powered by Stripe — secure credit pack purchase screen

YarnSaga credit pack checkout, now powered by Stripe.

A checkout you already know how to use

The best thing about Stripe is that you've almost certainly used it before — even if you never noticed. It's the payment layer behind a huge share of the internet's checkouts, which means the flow feels instantly familiar: clean, fast, and trustworthy.

Practically, that gives you:

  • Express wallets — if your browser supports Apple Pay or Google Pay, you can buy a credit pack in a couple of clicks, no card typing at all.
  • All major cards — Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and more, processed instantly.
  • Local payment methods — Stripe surfaces the methods that make sense for your country, so checkout feels native wherever you are.
  • Instant credits — the moment your payment clears, your credits land in your account and you're back to generating panels.

Your card details never touch our servers

This is the part we care about most. YarnSaga never sees, handles, or stores your card number. When you pay, your details go straight to Stripe over an encrypted connection — we only ever get a confirmation that the payment succeeded.

Stripe is certified to the highest level of payment security in the industry (PCI Service Provider Level 1) and is trusted with the financial data of millions of businesses. By routing payments through them, your purchase on YarnSaga is protected by bank-grade infrastructure that's far stronger than anything a small team should be building in-house. We'd rather lean on the world leaders here than reinvent it ourselves.

What hasn't changed: how you pay

The payment processor changed. The pricing model didn't, and it isn't going to.

YarnSaga is still pay-as-you-go credit packs — never a subscription. You buy credits once, you spend them when you want, and they never expire. No recurring charges, no "your trial is ending" emails, no surprise renewals. You're in control of every dollar you spend. The move to Stripe is purely about a smoother, safer, more familiar checkout — not about changing what you pay or how.

You can see the current packs any time on the pricing page.

Why we made the switch

Two reasons, plain and simple.

First, trust. When you're putting money into a young product, the checkout is a moment of truth. Seeing a payment flow you recognize — backed by a name you already trust with purchases everywhere else — removes the friction and the doubt. You shouldn't have to wonder whether it's safe to buy a $6 credit pack.

Second, reliability and reach. Stripe's infrastructure handles payments at a scale we'll spend years growing into, with fraud protection, global coverage, and uptime that's effectively a solved problem. That means fewer failed payments, more supported countries and methods, and a checkout that just works — so we can spend our time on what actually makes YarnSaga better: keeping your characters consistent, your panels sharp, and your stories shipping.

Try it

Nothing to set up — it's already live for everyone. Next time you grab a credit pack, you'll go through the new Stripe checkout automatically. Open the app to keep building, or check the packs on the pricing page first.

Curious how the credit math actually works out against hiring an illustrator? We broke it down in the real cost of making a graphic novel in 2026.
